Analysis of the Restaurant Review

Today I'm going to do an analysis of a restaurant review I was assigned in class.

The restaurant review is this video on YouTube.

Istanbul Restaurant Review

(↑Click this link to watch the video!!)

The video is called "Istanbul Restaurant Review" by a channel called "Safs Life".

The restaurant she reviews is called "Istanbul Restaurant", and is located in Birmingham, UK in the Handsworth Wood area

The woman in the video mainly talks about the good points, but also mentions the bad points.

The good things about this restaurant:

-Service

People are very lovely/welcome. They're really smiley, and the waiting time is very quick. Takes only five minutes to serve the starters. Once you're finished with your starters, they're ready to bring out your main dishes. She says that she didn't wait any of the times she went there.

-Quality of food:

You can tell it's fresh. The meat is so soft. However the amount they give you is crazy because five adults and two kids shared four servings and there were loads of leftovers. Loads of rice and piles of meat, for example, ribs, chicken wings... She took the leftovers home.

-Atmosphere:

Really good because you don't feel like you're getting stared at when you're eating, and the waiters are far away unless you call them over. The decor is okay, but not the best. They have a Turkish theme.

-Price:

The prices are very reasonable. They paid 50 pounds (about 7,500 yen) for five adults and two kids. And they got drinks and starters and food...

-Surrounding:

The restaurant itself is very clean. All the cutleries are nice and clean and don't have leftovers that got dry.

-Parking:

The parking is quite good, because there's a residential side road that you can park and it's a dead-end. And it's also free.

Bad things:

-Table Arrangements:

The tables are very close to each other so if the restaurant is busy you have to sit next to someone and they're quite close to each other. You feel like you're sitting together with the person next to you.

-Why should you eat there?

They give you free salad and bread. The bread has an amazing taste and you can't stop eating the bread but you have to because you won't be able to eat the main. They also give you free tea at the end of the meal and it's that Turkish tea. The food is not spicy and anyone who likes kebabs will like it.

To summarize...

She talks about the food, atmosphere, and even about the parking.

The woman talked about the overall review, and not very specific things about the food and the menus.

The review is neutral because she talks about the good points and the bad points. For example, she said that the tables are a little too close to each other as a bad point.

She also talked about how the service is good and the staff are lovely and welcome, but nothing about the chef or the owner.

She doesn't mention anything about her own regional things in this video, but she wears a scarf covering her head, so she is probably a muslim.

She puts a video of herself actually visiting the restaurant at the very end of the video, and it was easier to imagine how the restaurant and the foods are like, but the salads and other dishes were already half eaten, so it didn't look very appetizing.

And I also thought it would have been better if she explained a little bit more about the menus. I couldn't really get information about the dishes they have.

How she emphasized some words and the way she explained the taste of the food made me want to visit the restaurant.

If I'm filming my own review video, I want to use English so that people all around the world can understand it. Also I want to put subtitles because there were some parts that I couldn't hear well in her video that I watched.

Australian family and food culture from the book "Hungry Planet"

Today, I'm going to introduce you an Australian family and food culture from the book called "Hungry Planet" .  The family is called the Molloy family. Natalie   is the mother of this family, and she is a finance officer at the University of Queensland College. John is the father and he is a banker. They have two kids which is Emily and Sean . This is how the grocery stores look like in Australia. Next, this is the family's weekly consumption . From the weekly consumption, the family buys a unique product called " Vegemite ". Vegemites are made from mainly yeast extract and salt . It's a by-product of beer brewing . It has a very salty and powerful taste, and is often used with butter. It also has a characteristic scent . I actually went to Australia when I was in high school and tried eating vegemite. Honestly, it wasn't my thing. It was really salty and I wouldn't want to try it again. Now about the Australian food culture, Australia...

My Recipe Presentation in Class

I gave a recipe presentation in class, and I was able to introduce a recipe of any kind of food! I chose to make " Galette Bretonne " for my presentation. Galette is a term used in French cuisine to designate various types of flat round or freeform crusty cakes , or in the case of a Breton galette, a pancake made with buckwheat flour usually with a savoury filling . The recipe and the taste is very similar to that of a conventional crepe . While crepes are made from wheat flour, galettes are often made from buckwheat flour .  The galette has its origin in the famous crepes. These are a gastronomic speciality that is offered throughout France , but the galettes originate from the region of Brittany located in the northwest of the country . There is evidence that in the Ancient Rome people ate crepes to celebrate the arrival of the spring and, therefore, the harvest to come . Centuries later, this traditional recipe evolved and new ingredients were added, such as buckwheat flou...
